Florianópolis May 2014 & June 2015 *****

This is the excellent, freshly Latin-inflected music mentioned in my March JJ0216 profile of  Brenner. It’s a beautifully paced – and packaged – release, with Brenner heading a quality quintet and also offering brief, evocative characterisations of each of his compositions in his sleeve-note. No matter what the changes in personnel or instrumentation, the music – very much a music of “breathing time” – is distinguished by the post-bop harmonic literacy, melodic elegance and rhythmic intelligence I’ve long come to associate with Brenner through years of enjoying his residency at Paris’s Café Laurent. Music to gladden heart and mind, body and soul: Terre Happy, indeed ! Michael Tucker Jazz Journal Décembre 2016
